John Reaney has delivered the government's Young, Gifted and Talented programme, aimed to help young people who have the ability, to look ahead towards further education, and subsequently to achieve their full potential.
There is some recognition that young people in London, The Black Country and Manchester who possess the ability to achieve academically, are not progressing to university and senior careers, for a diverse range of reasons. The government committed resources to encourage long-term thinking by these young people, wanting to see them secure places in top universities, and move on to take positions of leadership and responsibility.
The programme comprised 3 two-day workshops in school year 10, and again in year 12, exploring individuality, creating and sustaining relationships with others, and skills that will encourage growth and personal development for the future. In years 11 and 13, workshops that focus specifically on GCSE and A-level achievement, including university applications, and ongoing education and training.
John has delivered a large number of Management Development Programmes for middle and senior managers of organisations that provide any service for young people. These programmes are tailored to meet the specific needs of the organisation and group, and have focussed on cross-sector and cross-discipline working to reduce duplication and deliver best outcomes for service users.
These Management Development Programmes can lead to a recognised qualification with the Chartered Management Institute, of which John holds Membership status.
John has been working with the Council for Wales of Voluntary Youth Services (CWVYS) to develop regional working opportunities, writing and editing of a range of good practice methodology handbooks commissioned by the Welsh Government, and undertaking research into the voluntary sector's relationship and access to the Credit and Qualification Framework for Wales.
Before moving to Wales in 2002, John worked within the Church of England as a Youth Worker and Diocesan Youth Officer, and has extensive knowledge of recruiting and employing staff and volunteers, fundraising and grant applications, and event management.
John is Chair of North Wales Youth Enterprises C.I.C. and a director of The Bay of Colwyn Community Benefit Society.
